Types of Editing Services

Depending on the source, there are anywhere from four to ten types of editing. I offer the complete editing structure that I learned in the Editing Mastery course.

Types of editing – from The Grammar Factory

The level of detailed editing can be considered like an upside down pyramid. The widest and broadest edit is at the top, with each subsequent layer of editing narrower and more detailed.

 1. Structural Editing

A structural edit looks at the overall structure and content of your book. The editor restructures your book for continuity; the editor makes the changes for you.

2. Copy-editing

A copy-edit (also known as a line edit) focuses on your book’s readability, and ensures your writing flows smoothly and makes sense to your readers.

A copy-edit focuses on paragraphs and sentences, correcting your spelling and grammar.

3. Proofreading

Proofreading only focuses on your spelling, grammar, punctuation, typos and consistency. It is the last step of editing your manuscript.
